Minimalist and subtle, this nice Corten Steel Planter Box is an excellent accessory for your garden. It is built extra deep to store larger plants. It has drainage holes on the base and sides for proper water drainage. It is constructed using premium quality 16-gauge steel that enables years of durability and functionality. The planter can be placed in the garden, the yard, or on the patio.
This planter is listed as an indoor or outdoor application and it works great. If you want to read an over-the-top modification for indoor application read the next paragraph. Once it was first assembled it seemed too large for its intended indoor application. This box, indoors, is rather large. I would suggest outdoor only as the seams all along the panel joints are not sealed and there are drainage holes. Any heavy watering of plants will see water coming through the bottom of the planter. We needed this planter for an indoor location in our small business. We went to great lengths to seal this planter for our indoor application. We custom cut a 5'x8' Oatey 30mil Shower Pan liner to fit the bottom and all four sides. Prior to installing the shower pan, we used Marine ATV silicon to seal all metal-on-metal joints. My husband also engineered putting in two sheets of 2" thick foil-backed foam insulation board back-to-back. The foam insulation board was cut to size to fit into the bottom of the planter. The foam was intended to reduce the weight of the box once full of plants and potting soil. The 4" of foam board reduced the overall weight of the planter box. Please note, the foam board was put in prior to the shower pan liner. The shower pan liner was installed next and sealed at all overlapping joints with shower pan cement. This was all left to dry for about 48 hours. Next, the potting soil sits on top of the shower pan liner. Once this box is full of potting mix and plants it is quite heavy. I cannot image the weight of this box full. Glad the foam was put in. I guess the Corten Steel planters are more designed for outdoor application anyway. Corten steel is heavy as this box weighs 20-25 lbs. by itself. Overall we are happy with this planter. As you can see in the photo two Snake Plants from the local big box store nursery fit well. The snake plant or sansevieria trifasciata, also called viper's bowstring hemp, snake plant, mother-in-law's tongue is good because it does not require much watering. We gave it four stars because its labeled as indoor application where we feel it is better suited outdoors.
