Weathering steel, often referred to by the genericized trademark COR-TEN steel and sometimes written without the hyphen as Corten steel, is a group of steel alloys which were developed to eliminate the need for painting, or Galvanising and form a stable rust-like appearance after several months exposure to weather. First invented for industrial uses such as building bridges, it was designed to keep building costs down, as without the need to paint or Galvanise this steel to protect it from the elements, less processes are involved making the final product much cheaper in comparison. Now a very trendy and popular material for all sorts of garden features, Corten Steel is bringing an industrial and contemporary feel to Many garden and outdoor spaces. An extremely popular addition to many of the feature gardens at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
