317L is an austenitic stainless steel.Mainly used for butterfly valve shaft, butterfly valve sleeve, etc.
317L(00Cr19Ni13Mo3, UNS S31726) alloy is austenitic stainless steel based on molybdenum. Compared with the conventional cr-ni austenitic stainless steel such as 304 alloy, it has stronger resistance to chemical corrosion. In addition, compared with conventional stainless steel, 317L alloy has higher ductility, stress corrosion resistance, compressive strength and high temperature resistance.It is low carbon grade or L grade, which has resistance to sensitization during welding and heat treatment.
Compared with 316L, 317L steel has good seawater resistance and SCC resistance, which is used for Chemical ship, Chemical product Reactor and other Chemical equipment requiring high corrosion resistance.

Physical and chemical properties of 317L:
Alloy 317L and 317LMN stainless steels are more resistant to atmospheric and other mild corrosion than conventional cr-ni stainless steels. Generally speaking, no corrosion of molybdenum containing alloys will be caused to 18cr-8ni steel in non-corrosive environment.
Alloy 317LMN and 317L stainless steels are more resistant to sulfuric acid solution than conventional cr-ni stainless steels. The corrosion resistance increases with the increase of molybdenum composition. These alloys can withstand concentrations of up to 5% sulfuric acid at temperatures up to 120°F(49°C). At temperatures below 100°F (38°C), these alloys provide excellent corrosion resistance to higher concentrations of solution corrosion.
317L Stainless Steel Oxidation Resistance:
Cr-ni-mo steels have excellent antioxidant properties, and scale formation rates are low in the general atmosphere at temperatures no higher than 1600-1650°F (871-899°C).
These grades shall not be hardened by heat treatment.
